Borja Carrascosa & Alexander Brenninkmeijer
CB Dressage started as a vision from both Borja and Alex during their time working together at Hof Kasselmann – Borja training and competing their horses and Alex co-organizing their shows and events. They quickly found out that they worked together very well, combining their skills and talents in order to achieve best possible results.
After the summer of 2015 Borja & Alex decided that it was time to start working on their own dream and set up their own business in Krefeld (Germany). Based at the beautiful yard Gut Auric and with the help and mentoring of Jean Bemelmans they created Carrascosa & Brenninkmeijer Dressage. The purpose of CB Dressage is to train and develop very talented dressage horses from young horse classes up to international Grand Prix level, managing their career into the top sport.
During the past years since CB Dressage was created, Borja & Alex have trained many horses up to the highest levels and travelled the whole world to successfully participate at many of the biggest and most prestigious shows.
Together with a young, motivated and work determined team CB Dressage is committed to achieve top results in sport and at the same time offer all our own and client´s horses a happy athlete life with lots of playtime on the fields and paddocks. With the acquisition of Gut Flamschen in Coesfeld (Germany) a big dream has now become true for Borja & Alex! At this new facility CB Dressage will be able to offer the best services and training opportunities to clients and horses.
Borja was born in 1982 into a horse breeding family nearby Madrid (Spain), with an own horse breeding stud for Lusitano horses and Spanish sport horses called Finca Los Lirios in Ávila. He started riding at a very young age, taught by his parents, and soon started to achieve his first successes after fully focusing on dressage riding. During his Junior and Young Rider years he achieved several medals at Spanish Championships and always was part of the Spanish Team at the European Championships.
As an adult, he won the silver medal at the Spanish Championships on Remigius in 2009 and continued being very successful in Spain with several horses from clients and of his own. In 2011 he moved to Germany to Hof Kasselmann, where he started working as a rider and soon became the head competition rider with many successful participations at national and international shows throughout Europe. He was trained by Ulli and Bianca Kasselmann as well as by Jean Bemelmans, with whom he had been training for many years already when Jean was still the trainer of the Spanish Equipe. It was in 2012 while working at Hof Kasselmann when Borja met Alex for the first time.
Having been a member of the Spanish Team at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam, and several times at the CHIO Aachen Nation´s Cup during the past years, Borja has established himself as one of Spain´s most consistent top riders while always bringing new horses into the top sport.
Alex was born in 1987 in Madrid (Spain) as well, but in his case into a Dutch family. He started riding ponies at the age of 4 and became a motivated show jumper. Having competed mostly at jumping shows throughout his entire childhood and adolescence, at the age of 18 he stopped riding in order to focus on his academic career.
After obtaining a professional degree in retail in Amsterdam, he went on to study International Business Management at ICADE in Madrid (Spain) and ESB Business School in Reutlingen (Germany). When finished with his Bachelor, Alex started working in Marketing for L’Oréal in Düsseldorf.
But still looking to pursue a life combining his passion for horses together with marketing and eventmanagement, he changed from L’Oréal in Düsseldorf to Hof Kasselmann in Hagen a.T.W., where he met Borja and was offered the possibility to work for one of the leading horse sport event organizers while being able to ride horses again – although in dressage rather than jumping. As part of the head organizing team at Hof Kasselmann Alex was co-responsible for events such as Horses & Dreams, Future Champions, the P.S.I. Auction and the ADC shows in Ankum, allowing him to build a great network in the horse sport world.
In May 2020 we moved to our own new facilities in Coesfeld. Located in one of the most beautiful and popular horse breeding and sport areas around Münster we have perfectly settled in at Gut Flamschen.
We are very proud and happy to have found such a beautiful place that offers the best possible conditions for our horses and our team. Have a look at the pictures and see for yourself!

Jorge Tomás Barbenza

Always with a smile on his face, he rides with great feeling and does a great job at training horses. Apart from that he is in charge of keeping all horses in good shape when Borja is away at competitions.
Kurt started working for us here at the new facilities in Coesfeld when we moved in in May 2020. He is in charge of general maintenance duties and keeps the barn and yard in top shape. Apart from that he also cleans out the stables and is a very hard worker who is always friendly to each and every horse.

(Estobar x Florestan I) *2009, Gelding
You could literally say that Ein Traum was (and still is!) “A Dream” that came true! Starting training with Borja as an 8 year old on small tour level, he taught him the GP exercises and competed him very successfully through national GP tests for developing GP horses up to the biggest championships in the world, including two participations at the CHIO Aachen with the Spanish Team in 2018/2019 and topping it off with the participation at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam. Some of his biggest successes also include winning the prestigious CDI5* Freestyle in Al Shaqab (Doha). Always a very funny and entertaining horse with great personality! Now he is being successfully competed by German medalist and U25 rider Paulina Holzknecht.
(Bordeaux x Münchhausen) *2010, Stallion
This impressive and beautiful chestnut stallion by Bordeaux came to our barn as a 7 year old and was trained by Borja to GP level in less than 2 years. He was very successful on small tour level and even more successful on GP level, winning several national GP classes for developing GP horses and qualifying for the renowned Louisdor Prize finals in Frankfurt in 2019. Thanks to his sportive successes with Borja, he was also approved as a breeding stallion by the Westphalian Association.
(Almoretto x Lorentin I) *2004, Gelding
Al Martino has probably been the horse that has travelled the most with Borja to international shows throughout Europe and the world. He was always very consistent in his tests, and we loved to have him with us at the most incredible shows in Doha, Geneva, Salzburg, Saumur, Pompadour, Stuttgart, Le Mans and many more. Always a happy and curious horse that loved being pampered and taken care of at shows!
(Don Frederico x Rohdiamant) *2008, Mare
Die Fürstin is a mare that everyone will remember for her outstanding extended trot diagonals! She could literally fly on the diagonal and rocked the small tour classes at some of the nicest shows in Europe, like for example the stunning Swarovski show in Austria, or the CDIs in Compiegne (France) and Wiener Neustadt (Austria).
(Fidertanz x Rohdiamant) *2011, Gelding
This very special young talent arrived at our barn as a 4 year old, and was trained by Borja for about 3 years. As a 5 year old he already qualified for the finals of the German Bundeschampionate, and as a 6 year old he won several international young horse classes, qualified for the German Bundeschampionate and won the silver medal at the final of the German Bundeschampionate. Definitely a great horse to remember!
FOCO LOCO W
(Sierappel) *2015, Gelding
This very big but incredibly loving horse was Borja´s dancing partner during the 2016/2017 indoor World Cup season. Together they performed fun filled Freestyle tests with many placings at some of the best shows in the world like Stuttgart, Salzburg, Amsterdam, Neumünster or s’Hertogenbosch.
(Waterford x Regazzoni) *2002, Mare
This incredible mare known for her outstanding piaffe/passage skills was one of Borja´s most successful horses so far. Even though they were a combination only for 6 months, together they were Hamburg Derby Champions in 2016 and became members of the Spanish Team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Reserve). After the Olympics she was then successfully competed by Nicole Vazquez (ESP).
(Fürstenball x Sandro Hit) *2011, Stallion
This very handsome young and approved stallion was trained by Borja as a 3 and 4 year old during his time at Hof Kasselmann. Together they won the Oldenburger Landesturnier in Rastede for 4 year old stallions, thus qualified for the German Bundeschampionate in Warendorf and there won the bronze medal in the final of the same category.
DONO DI MAGGIO
(Dimaggio x Santander H) *2007, Gelding
Borja took over the reins of Dono di Maggio as a 5 year old in 2012, just a few months after starting at Hof Kasselmann. He trained and competed him through the levels up to Grand Prix in 2015, when he successfully showed him at the CDI5* Dortmund and CDI4* Hamburg in the GP classes for developing young horses. After leaving Kasselmann, Emile Faurie took over the ride on Dono di Maggio, also achieving great results and being selected for the British team at the WEG in Tryon (USA) in 2018.
(Welt Hit II x Rubinstein I) *2001, Gelding
Just as the name suggests, Weekend Fun was a very fun and kind horse. Borja competed him successfully at national Grand Prix level in 2014 and won the Grand Prix class in Neumünster at the VR Classics. Unfortunately an injury kept Weekend Fun away from the show ring for some time. Has has now been competed successfully by Bianca Kasselmann during the past years.
(Sandro Hit x Donnerhall) *2004, Stallion
This stunning and beautiful black stallion was Borja´s long term small tour companion at many national and international shows throughout Germany and Europe from 2013 to 2015. Wherever they competed, they achieved great results and many victories and top placings. Always very easy to handle and in a good mood, Borja and Soliere had a great time together in the show rings!
(Hudson x Walt Disney I) *2003, Gelding
This big bay gelding with an amazing hind leg and super trot extensions and passage was Borja´s partner at the World Equestrian Games in Caen (France) in 2014 with the Spanish team. He competed Hicksteadt successfully with some victories at national level and then continued with strong results and placings at international shows before being selected for the Spanish team in Caen. There they obtained the 5th place with the team.
(Feiner Stern x Landadel) *1997, Gelding
Famous Boy was Borja´s first Grand Prix horse at Hof Kasselmann. With him he competed at many national and international shows, obtaining many great placings and finishing 2nd at the German Classics in Hannover in 2013 and competing as part of the Spanish team at CHIO Aachen in the same year.
(Ruiz Soler x Warkant) *2002, Mare
She was not just powerful, she was a top class sport mare! Borja and Powerfee competed at small tour level nationally and internationally in 2013, obtaining victories and great placings at many shows. The highlight was the participation at CHIO Aachen in 2013 in the small tour classes, being placed in both tests with great results!
(Lanciano x Donnerhall) *1999, Stallion
This handsome and well mannered stallion was a pleasure to watch in the show ring together with Borja! They won national Grand Prix classes and were also placed at international shows, being their highlight the CHIO Aachen in 2013, where he competed with Limited Edition in the CDI4*, with Famous Boy in the CDI5* and with Powerfee in the CDI1*.
(Iberio x Fierant XX) *1998, Gelding
Ideal was a very tall bay gelding with a very big heart. This was the first horse that Borja rode at Hof Kasselmann on his first day of work there. They competed at many national and international shows on small tour level for over a year, with some victories and great placings as well. Thanks to this horse Borja obtained enough wins in Prix St. Georges and Inter I to be awarded with the “Goldenes Reitabzeichen” (golden badge) in 2012.
(Jazmín x …) *2001, Stallion
This grey stallion with very characteristic Lusitano looks was bred by Borja´s family and Borja trained him up to Grand Prix level through the years. In 2010 they won the gold medal at the Senior Championships in Castilla y León (Spain). Unfortunately in 2012, when Borja wanted to start competing Urutí on Grand Prix level, he had to say goodbye to him due to a colic from which he never recovered.
(Ravallo x Aperitif) *1994, Gelding
Remigius is one of Borja´s most special horses that he had in his early Grand Prix years. Together they competed at 6 Spanish Championships and finished on the podium in 2009 at their last championship when they won the silver medal in the senior Grand Prix class. After that success Borja retired Remigius at his breeding stud Yeguada Los Lirios in Ávila (Spain), where he´s still super fit and enjoying his life together with the young colts.
(Gribaldi x Contango) *2001, Stallion
Universal is one of Borja´s main breeding stallions at Yeguada Los Lirios in Ávila (Spain). With Borja Universal won the Spanish Championships for young horses in the class of 5 year old stallions. Since then, he has been breeding and producing great offspring by combining his Dutch genes with the Lusitano mares at the breeding stud.
(Nabuco x Mare) *2002, Stallion
This beautiful dark bay Lusitano stallion was trained by Borja from 5 years old until Grand Prix. There are not many horses capable of piaffing like Vento could, and also his pirouettes were one of a kind. He always was a super noble horse with great character and very easy to handle. After being trained up to Grand Prix level, Vento went back to Borja´s breeding stud in Ávila (Spain) to breed and then enjoyed a great retirement for many years.
(Gribaldi x Gabor) *2009, Stallion
Escort is the King in our stable. He is a beautiful black stallion with lots of quality and a rather strong personality. We bought him as a four year old and trained him up to Grand Prix level during the past years. On small tour level he won many national and also some international shows throughout Europe, and he has also won national Grand Prix classes for developing GP horses. Borja is now preparing him to start his international career on the highest level. Thanks to his successful show record Escort was approved as a breeding stallion by the Westphalian Association in December 2019. We hope to be able to offer him for breeding soon!
(Stallone Quainton x Ehernwort) *2008, Mare
This beautiful chestnut mare also goes by Big Mama in our barn. She is a very special project that keeps surprising and exciting us day after day. Jean Bemelmans discovered Laponia during a clinic in Poland, and bought her straight away. By that time Laponia was 9 years old and could not even do a single flying change in canter, let alone a halfpass or piaffe/passage. And she had been a mother already! But during the last years Jean and Ashlea Sandfort first taught her all the exercises up to small tour level, until Borja took over the ride in 2019 and trained her up to GP level together with Jean. At the end of 2019 Laponia was competed nationally on GP level, and in 2020 she made her international debut with very promising scores in Le Mans (France), followed by other top performances in Herning (Denmark) and Hagen. We are very excited about her future!
(Finest x Quaterback) *2015, Stallion
This impressive big bay stallion that we call Fritz is a very special horse to us. We bought him as a foal when he was just 6 weeks old – bred by Hermann Ulbrich in Peine (Germany) – and already showing great potential. He grew up in Lienen at Hengstaufzucht Rethemeier and we started working him when he was 3,5 years old. As a 4 year old he qualified for the Hanoverian Championships, which he won in the class of the 4 year old stallions! As a 4 and 5 year old he already qualified for the German Bundeschampionat and competed there very successfully. We are very thrilled about his development and looking forward to his next shows and his future!
(For Romance x Don Frederico) *2015, Stallion
Fifth Avenue, also called Fiffy, is another black & beautiful stallion that we bought as a foal from his breeder Volker Fajen in Horstedt (Germany). He is the first out of in total 5 foals that we have bought from the same breeder during the past years. He has been trained and ridden by Maik Schemmann, who has also competed him very successfully! As a 4 year old he won and was highly placed at many young horse shows and finished 4th at the Hanoverian Championships for 4 year old stallions in Verden. He also qualified for the German Bundeschampionat as a 5 year old and competed there very successfully. He was now sold to German squad rider Franziska Nölken.
(De Niro x Gribaldi) *2015, Mare
De Sica is Borja´s princess in the barn. She is a very sweet and super talented mare which we also bought as a foal – bred by Ralf Brands in Heiden (Germany) – when we could already see how much talent she would have in the future. Out of one of our favorite stallions De Niro & Gribaldi, she is a very intelligent horse with great personality and has a great ability to learn super fast. We are looking forward to her first competitions in the future!
(Fürstenball x Dancier) *2016, Stallion
This handsome young bay stallion was also bought by us as a foal from breeder Madonna Hedberg (AUS). He is an incredibly nice horse with three top gaits and great potential for the future. He was competed by Maik Schemman in young horse classes, where he was successfully placed several times. Then he was sold in 2020 and he´s making his new owners very happy!
De Siena (De Niro x Sandro Hit) *2016, Gelding
This young black gelding is a super sweet high quality horse the was started under the saddle when he was 4 years old already. As all our other young horses, he grew up in Lienen at Hengstaufzucht Rethemeier. Just after a few months in training he was already sold to a loyal customer in France, who will have a great time with him!
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY
(For Romance x Don Frederico) *2017, Stallion
This is the third full brother of the stallions Fifth Avenue and Fifty Cent, and he is also a black and beautiful stallion. He was just started under the saddle a few months ago, and we are super excited about his top quality! If he develops just as good as his full brothers, then he will be another superstar!
(Universal x Reyezuelo), *2017, Stallion
This elegant dark grey stallion is a breeding product of Borja from his stud farm Finca Los Lirios in Ávila (Spain). He is bred by the KWPN stallion Universal and was born from a Lusitano mare by Reyezuelo. From this KWPN-PSL mix we hope for a great sporthorse that combines the qualities of both breeds. He was already started under saddle already impresses with his great quality and his easy character.
(Dante´s Junior x Don Frederico) *2019, Mare
Out of the same mare like our For Romance stallions but this time out of Dantes Junior – who unfortunately passed away too soon – this young lady is our last acquisition from Volker Fajen in Horstedt (Germany). She is a topstar already, her quality leaves no doubt that she will be a top horse in the future! She is still enjoying the pastures at Hengstaufzucht Rethemeier in Lienen until she´s old enough to start working under saddle.
(Finest x Don Marcello) *2019, Stallion
And this young stallion was also just acquired by us last year. He is an impressive colt by Finest, which is a stallion we really like due to his great offspring so far. He moves incredibly nice and powerful and we hope he will follow the steps of his half brother Frizzantino, then he will be a superstar too!
